The history of pearls:

Pearls are organic rocks created by certain mollusks such as oysters, mussels and clams. They have been highly prized in jewelry since Antiquity for their beauty and timeless sobriety. They represent a symbol of love and purity.

There are different types of pearls, each with its own characteristics and values.

The different types of pearls :

- Fine pearls: These are formed naturally in a mollusk without human intervention, and are generally rarer and more expensive than cultured pearls.

- Cultured pearls: These are cultivated by man, who implants a nucleon into the mollusk in order to produce pearls. This nucleon interferes with the mollusk, which automatically covers the intruder in its shell. This is how cultured pearls are born. Pearls were first cultivated by the Japanese in the early 20th century. Since then, the Japanese technique developed by Mikimoto has spread throughout the world.

- Freshwater pearls: These are the most common and are produced by molluscs living in rivers and lakes.

Pearl characteristics:

There are many different kinds of pearls.  They vary in size, shape and color. They can be white, cream, black, pink or gold. Pearls also come in many shapes, such as round, oval, button, drop or baroque. However, the most expensive pearls are round, smooth with few imperfections and relatively white. The brilliance of the pearl under the effect of light is called lustre.

Jewelry:

Pearls are used to make a wide range of jewelry items, including rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. It's also common in jewelry to combine pearls with other precious stones, such as diamonds, sapphires, rubies or emeralds, as well as various metals, to create elegant and refined jewelry.

At Pierre de Julie, we regularly offer new products, including jewelry set with cultured pearls or fine pearls.

Our selection of pearl jewelry includes our sublime Art-deco necklace with five strands of pearls, and our splendid Andrew Grima ring set with a pearl and diamonds.

A budget to plan for:

Indeed, all jewelry set with a fine pearl comes with a certain cost, and not the least. A substantial budget is required.

Cultured pearl jewelry, on the other hand, is generally a little more affordable.

Currently, our entry-level cultured pearl jewelry costs a minimum of €300.

Be aware that the price of your jewelry will be higher depending on the pearl's origin, quality, color and shape. If you're on a budget, opt for our sublime 18-carat yellow gold Tahitian pearl pendant. However, if your budget allows it, in that case, go for our 18-carat Yellow Gold Pearl Necklace.
